Leadership coaching

Leaders at all levels are experiencing unprecedented challenges, burnout, and transitions. Coaching provides individual, tailored support for leaders in a way that other professional development can’t. In a recent poll of local nonprofit leaders conducted by LeaderBridge, coaching was rated as one of the top two resources that leaders want access to as they navigate their careers. Coaching is unique as it’s tailored to each individual and their specific goals. Through coaching, leaders can:

  • Choose how to lead

  • Build self-awareness

  • Learn to better leverage their strengths

  • Navigate challenges, including many rooted in systemic issues

  • Strengthen listening and empathy skills

  • Develop strategies to address burnout

  • Explore how imposter syndrome may be getting in the way

  • Deepen self-confidence

  • Establish a growth mindset, and more.

Convenient sessions and scheduling

Sessions are virtual, and scheduling takes place directly between the leader and coach. Sessions are available during the workday, and many of our coaches also offer evening and weekend availability.

 FAQs

  • “Coaching” means many things to many people. ACC is focused on “leadership coaching” oriented around a work/career-focused context but also broad enough to include personal well-being as it impacts people’s ability to show up in the ways that they choose.

We define coaching as a partnership between the Coach and the Client in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires the client to maximize personal and professional potential. It is designed to facilitate the creation/development of personal, professional or business goals and to develop and carry out a strategy/plan for achieving those goals. Coaching is not advice-giving, psychological counseling, or therapy.

  • Our primary offering is 12 one-hour coaching sessions held twice per month. This can adjust down to a minimum of six sessions if the time period is more limited, or increase beyond 12 sessions as it makes sense for the partner/client. For example, a school leader may want two sessions per month for 10 months, or 20 sessions total.

  • All ACC coaches are trained, professional coaches with a strong equity lens; a creative and client-driven approach; and a belief in people’s capacity to generate the solutions to their own challenges. ACC coaches have all received professional coach training and follow the International Coaching Federation coaching guidelines and competencies. Coaches have experience as social impact leaders, school principals, nonprofit executive directors, heads of HR and talent development, equity leaders, and more. ACC coaches go through a formal application and vetting process prior to selection. In addition, ACC clients provide feedback on coaches to support ACC in ongoing evaluation, helping to ensure that the ACC coach roster remains strong and relevant.

  • We work with new and experienced leaders as defined by the organization. If an organization makes the case for a broader engagement, we’ll explore if we’re a good fit.

  • All of our coaches bring a strong equity lens to their coaching, and have a demonstrated, active commitment to racial and social equity. This often includes professional experience as a leader and advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion; participation in racial and social justice fellowships and trainings; and more.

  • Sessions are typically virtual, though phone and in-person engagements can be discussed between individual leaders and their coaches.

  • By creating a model which is affordable, providing a roster of vetted coaches, and reducing the administrative burden for organizations related to offering coaching to their leaders.

  • We focus on leadership coaching, which sometimes includes topics normally covered in life coaching such as work-life balance or other issues that impact leaders’ ability to show up effectively at work.

All of our coaches incorporate elements of wellness as it is critical to ensuring that clients can thrive as leaders and as people. In addition, several of our coaches have particular expertise with wellness coaching.

  • Not yet, but these are in development.

  • Several ACC coaches are listed on our About page, and we share customized coach rosters with each client organization and the individuals who will receive coaching. For prospective client organizations, we can share additional anonymized bios to give a sense of the types of coaches on our roster. We’re constantly updating and building our coaching roster depending on the needs and interests of our clients and the availability of our coaches, so our roster is ever-evolving depending on these changing dynamics.

"I really loved it! I've seen such a huge change in my confidence and my attitude towards my own goals and future."
